HOW DID YOU GET TO MY PLATE?

Have you ever stopped to wonder how or where your food comes from? Where and how the vegetables, grains and fruits were grown; how each animal was raised; the amount of time required to grow each crop or livestock.

We may not all have the time or interest or means to trace where each element of our meals come from. However, there are certain simple steps we can take that are healthier for us and the earth when it comes to choosing what to eat:

  • Buy and eat local – Locally grown foods travel shorter distances to get to our stores and markets. This translates into lower harmful CO2 emissions associated with the burning of fossil-fuels in transport. When you buy home-grown food, you also support local businesses and give back to your community.
