Plastic has practically revolutionized the way we live, no doubt. It is also super convenient and affordable too.
Unfortunately, plastic is non-biodegradable; this simply means plastic does not decompose or decay. On the other hand, biodegradable substances decay and decompose through the action of bacteria and fungi to natural and environmentally safe conditions. So, waste plastic constitutes a long-term nuisance. Not cute at all.

It is therefore highly important to start cutting our plastic consumption drastically. Here’s a few tips:
- Go shopping with your bags and containers. Refuse store/market plastic bags except where necessary.
- Keep and reuse your plastic bags and other plastic materials.
- Try alternatives like glass and paper packaging instead of plastic. Certain leaves like banana leaves have traditionally been used as great wrapping and packaging such as in the preparation of moi-moi (African bean pudding).
Let me know how it goes.
Cheers to the less-plastic you!
